Saying goodbye to Mandurah {Part 2}....

So after packing up the house on Wednesday and Thursday we all moved into a local hotel. We still had a heap of loose ends to tie up, including cleaning the house, packing the car for Brett and Charlotte's big trip, and most importantly Charlotte had her last days of school to attend.

One of our biggest concerns in deciding to uproot our little family was the impact on Charlotte. We knew Lucas (and of course Freya) would adapt easy enough, but Charlotte would be leaving all her friends, and a wonderful school and teacher. When negotiating a start date for Brett in his new job, I insisted that we give Charlotte enough time to adjust to the idea of moving, and this included her being able to particpate in her class' assembly presentation. 

So on her very last day her little pre-primary class was to be taking assembly, and Charlotte and her friend Esme were given the very special roles of assembly leaders. Charlotte had been practising her lines for months. To be honest Brett and I were more than a little bit worried that she would get stage fright, as she had been going through a very shy, mumbling stage, and it would all end in tears.

Well, we will eat our hats because she absolutely rocked it!! We couldn't be more proud of our big girl, who stood up there in front of the whole school and spoke clearly, and sang and danced her little heart out.

It really was a bittersweet morning. Charlotte has excelled and loved her time at this wonderful school, and here we were yanking her out, and taking her 1600kms away, not even sure if we could get her into a school for the rest of the year. But all she wanted was to be there for the assembly, and as soon as it was finished she said "OK, when are we leaving for Karratha!".
