Lucas @ 8 months

Well he's already 8 months. And the first milestone reached for the month, happened one day after I posted his 7 month update. Lucas is officially on the move. I wouldn't call it crawling just yet - maybe commando-crawling or dragging. Towards the end of the month he was getting pretty quick, and spending more time up on his knees, so full blown crawling isn't far away. To say we weren't quite prepared for this is an understatement. Miss Charlotte didn't crawl until about 11 months, and walked at 15 months. Everyone keeps telling me it's because he's a boy and a second child. Either way the gates have gone up, all Charlotte's itty-bitty Barbie shoes and other tiny toys have been relocated to her room, and I would imagine that locks on the kitchen cupboards are the next step.

Lucas is a really happy little fella, with a wicked laugh. He is content to hang out with Charlotte playing and never seems to be quiet. Well, he does have to compete with his chatterbox sister. There is a constant stream of babble coming out of his little mouth. Mid October he finally started with the dadadadadas much to Daddy's delight. he has also introduced kakakaka for Car. He makes kissing noises on demand. I just have to say "Lucas, where's my kisses?" and his gorgeous lips pucker-up... he puts absolutely everything into it. I will have to try and get a photo.
Lucas is fascinated with our dog Denim. And in return Denim is very patient with him. Denim has a "thing" about being touched on his feet - he HATES it!!! But on this day he was happy for Lucas to touch them, and pulll his ears and kiss him. This poor dog now has two of them crawling all over him. Very tolerant!!

I'm struggling a bit with the whole food thing. Well, actually I'm not, but Lucas is. He is a real "gagger" - he regurgitates anything remotely chunky. He loves his cereal and pureed fruit, pureed vegies and chicken, sweet corn and pasta that I make, but when I tried to make it a little less smooth, he carries on like he's choking on a chicken bone. It's a little frustrating. I'm sure Charlotte was eating bits of toast and chunkier stuff by now. It probably doesn't help that he is still very much a booby-man. But at least I know that if he doesn't appear to actually consume much of his dinner, he is getting everything else he needs from me.

Lucas has started to share the ocassional bedtime story with Brett and Charlotte, which is a blessing as I haven't had much time to spend reading to him like I did Charlotte. Poor second-child... not alot of one-on-one time with either of us. we'll make up for it when madam heads off to Kindy next year. But in the mean time this will have to do...

So what else is Master Lucas up to.... he started swimming lessons a few weeks back. I haven't got photos as yet, as I ahve always been in the water. Although he has been to the pool several times before he wasn't very impressed with his first class experience. He was happy to have water sprinkled on his head, and fine when going under, but there is something about the actual class he is not fond of. The first week was terrible, with him screaming pretty much the whole 1/2 hour. But in the weeks since he has got a bit better, having a bit of a sob for the first 5 minutes, and by the end of it, happy as Larry. Very weird???
I'm sure there is more, but I can't think of it right now. So I will leave you with a couple more photos...
Very busy... (notice his favourite toy - a string of beads... gotta have bling, and check out the thunder thighs... loves his milk, this one)

Would you look at those lips.... and that wild hair...

That's all for now,
Cass xoxo
