I actually started this post on the 12th August (2 weeks ago now).... not sure how relevant it is now, but thought I would continue anyway.... The original post is in Italics, and I've added bits....
12/8/08 - Well as you may have noticed I have been Missing in Action for the last week or so. Lots has happened, mainly illness as usual in this house - have I told you I'm so over winter...
Not that winter had anything to do with me getting Mastitis!!! About 2 weeks ago now I started to feel a little fluey - feverish, achy and lethargic. I also realised my right boob was tender. I have had several blocked ducts since Lucas was born, so really didn't think much of it. I know the remedy is to just feed as much as possible, use heat packs/shower before feeds and cold packs after feeds, and it should clear itself. Every other time I have had a blockage this has been sufficient. Unfortunately not this time. It went one step further with an infection and mastitis. I must say - and anyone who has had this horrible condition will probably agree - I felt like I was dying!!! I have honestly never felt so sick in my life. I eventualy dragged myself to the doctors and came home armed with 2 types of antibiotics, and instructions to go to bed... was this doctor kidding me... (he was male, mind you)... as if I have time to be sick and go to bed.... Thankfully the anitbiotics kicked in instantly. Brett took the following day off, and a couple of days later I was starting to feel more like myself.
ETA: Very scary... my breastfeeding life flashed before my eyes.... I thought it was over... Boob is all good now anbd I am keeping a really good eye on his feeding.
More bloody colds and flus in our house. Lucas' nose has been running for a week now. Charlotte not so bad, but now has a chesty cough. And I have had the headcold, sinus stuff and cough too. We're not the only ones though... most of the families I know are on this continuous cycle also... even the ones who ended up giving the kids flu shots...
ETA: Lucas still has a bit of his cold now 2 weeks later... but I think we have a bit of an explanation for that... read on...
So at the end of Lucas' first week of cold/flu I notice a little bump on his gum. The next morning, I can see a white dot. And by that afternoon there is a tooth!!! Aaaaaarrrrrrggggh!!! Not already!! Charlotte didn't sprout teeth until nearly 10 months. C'mon Lucas!!
ETA: Again my breastfeeding life flashed before my eyes. Luckily (touch wood) there has been no biting yet. He is happy enough with now two cute little pegs. I remember Charlotte getting a cold and runny nose each time she was growing new teeth, so now I don't what is a cold and what is just teeth...
And as he is 6 months in the next couple of days we will be tackling some first foods. God help us!!! I forgot what all this was like...
ETA: He has tried some rice cereal... let's just say I can't see him weaning anytime soon (I'm glad!!!) He would starve to death if he did... First food post to come...
