Pregnancy Update

WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD...
Well, long time no blog! Have been a bit slack, I know. Quite a few people have been asking how the pregnancy is going, and I haven't had the time to write emails back (Sorry!!).
I am now 16 weeks, and pretty much over the nausea, except if I leave too bigger gap between meals. The exhaustion is still hanging around, but can't figure out if it is the pregnancy or our 2 1/2 year old that doesn't sleep, that is main contributor!!

We got through the first 12 weeks, and breathed a sigh of relief that this baby was staying put, only to have another episode of bleeding at 14 weeks. I immediately assumed the worst, and we had 48 hours of not knowing if all was OK. Of course, I had to bleed on a Saturday morning, which meant my Obstetrician's office was closed, so we endured 6 hours in Emergency. Only for the registrar to tell us that they don't do ultrasounds on a weekend, and that I should go home, think positive and come back on Monday for a scan. Yeah, thanks for that!
Luckily I have a wonderful friend Chris who is a midwife, who I happened to be seeing that evening, and who happened to be doing a shift on the maternity ward the following evening (Sunday). She said we could pop into the ward and she would try and find a heartbeat. After 10 minutes of searching with the Doppler, we struck gold. It was honestly the best sound I have ever heard - that galloping horse sound!!! I then had a scan the next day, and all is well with bub! The doctor can't explain the bleeding, and said it may very well happen again, but all looks good so far! Yay!!!

So we press onwards.... I had my first visit with my midwife Sally last Thursday. We have decided to hire a private midwife in the hope that I can avoid a C-section this time. The joy of having Sally is that I don't have to visit the doctor half as much, and she will come to our home for all my check-ups and when I go into labour. I know I am really going to appreciate the continuity of care that having a one-on-one midwife provides, and being safe in the knowledge that she will be with us every single step of the way, and there will be no UNNECESSARY Caesarean this time. Don't get me wrong, I know caesareans can be life-saving operations, and I don't begrudge anyone who chooses to have a caesarean either, mine was just not necessary. And many aren't!!

We have our 20 week scan beginning of October which will be exciting as we haven't had any formal scans to date, only quick ones in the doctors office. We have decided against finding out the sex, but Brett is sure that it is another girl! I don't really have a feeling either way! (I probably should, huh??). We are struggling a bit with names, so if anyone has any good ones, let us know!

Charlotte now knows that mummy has a baby in her belly, and likes being a mummy to all her baby dolls. We found her giving one of the babies a breastfeed the other day, which is interesting as she and I were so bad at it. I think she has seen my friend Sara feeding baby Megan, and assumes this is how all babies do it! I am happy with that as I am hoping to feed for longer this time.

Well, I think that is about it. Catch you soon.

Cass xoxo
