The Dude has a New Do...

Well I bit the bullet and finally took Lucas off for his first real hair cut this morning, as we have Brett's brother's wedding on Saturday and he was looking a tad on the scruffy side. The hairdresser was under strict instructions to do nothing too drastic. She suggested cutting off some of the length, the fringe and layering it. I said Yep.

He was superstar sitting reasonably still. The hairdresser even put some product in. Nothing like a bit of "manscaping".

So here is Lucas before:

It was bound to happen....

Yep, my little man is in plaster. He has greenstick fractures to both the bones in his forearm. The result of a pretty innocent-looking tumble off the couch onto carpet.

After bathtime on Wednesday night, both kids were sitting with Brett on the couch. Lucas crawled to the other end of the couch and then just fell off it. He is usually a pretty tough little bugger, but he started howling, and wouldn't stop. I looked for the usual telltale signs of a bruise or egg on his forehead, but couldn't see anything. It took 20 minutes of his screaming to finally realise that his little wrist was sore, red and quite swollen. It was quite limp, and he wouldn't grasp anything, so I bundle him the car and head to Emergency. By the time we see the doctor he is no longer screaming, even cracking a smile and when she examines him he is able to grasp toys quite well. She has a bit of a feel of his wrist, elbow and shoulder, and tells me it seems to just be sprained/bruised and not worth X-raying as he has good movement and is no longer screaming in pain. I head home, dose him up wiuth Panadol and he sleeps well.

Thursday, he randomly holds out his wrist and says "ouch" and has a bit of a cry when he falls over (he does this alot LOL!). It is still swollen and he won't let me touch it. After a heavy fall at Mum's group Friday morning, and more screaming, I decide that a trip to the GP is in order, to have it checked again. The GP takes one look at it and suspects it is fractured and sends us over to the hospital for Xrays. I had organised for Brett to come home from work as Charlotte needed picking up and I couldn't be sure I would get back to Kindy in time. After picking Miss C up he meets us at X-ray, and I ask him to take Lucas in. I can hear him screaming his little lungs out as they manipulate his wrist to get the shots. My poor little man. All the while I have Charlotte with me in the waiting room chucking a paddy because she wanted to go in with Brett and Lucas. I'm sure they were happy to see the back of us!

As it is late afternoon and haven't the time to wait for a written report, the radiologist calls Brett back in for the results and she tells him that yes, he has in fact fractured his wrist. I am furious with the Emergency doctor who missed it, and heartbroken that Lucas has been in pain for 2 whole days. We head back to the GP's office and he shows us on the films, the greenstick fractures to both bones of his little forearm. My poor little man. The GP puts a temporary backslab plaster on and we are to head back in two weeks for a full cats that will be on for a further 4 weeks.

He seems to be coping just fine with the cast on. It is a bit of a pain as it has to be kept dry, and he is the messiest eater around, which means having a plastic bag over it at mealtimes. He has already cracked me over the back of the head with it yesterday morning, so I have learnt it's not worth putting him in our bed when he wakes at 5am (oh yes, I have another early riser!!).

Man, boys are just different!!

It was a sad day when we farewelled our wonderful friend Robert, who was leaving us for Vietnam, and a fantastic new job. We attended a gathering of his friends and family a week or so before his departure and I managed to get a couple of snaps. Rob has been a wonderful support to me personally since I made the big move to Perth. WE MISS YOU HEAPS ROB!!
